Farming

The Estate lies in the Usk Valley and extends above the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal into the Brecon Beacons National Park.  The land varies from Usk alluvial plains to uplands and thus supports a diverse range of farming activities. You will see arable, dairy, beef and sheep enterprises, some of which are organic. We encourage farm practices which promote conservation and good soil management.

The Estate actively farms 600 acres in-hand, stocked with Pedigree Luing cows and Cheviot cross ewes. Sustainable regenerative farming principles have been adopted for the business.

Llanover has one of the oldest flocks of Black Welsh Mountain sheep which dates back to c1840 when Lady Llanover brought pedigree stock from West Wales. The original bloodlines have been kept through the years with the flock being entirely closed for breeding females. Prize winning rams have been carefully selected to improve the flock.
